The Monsal Dale Walk is a fantastic walking route that will allow you to experience a number of different terrain types throughout the beautiful Derbyshire countryside. The trail sets out from Monsal Head and traverses some scenic farmland to the east before looping back to cross over the River Wye along the Monsal Dale Viaduct.

Monsal Head is a historic viewpoint and lookout in the Peak District National Park which sees thousands of tourists visit each year. Although the hill has been here since time immemorial, this valley became industrialised in the Victorian era due to the Midlands Railway that was opened in 1863.

Monsal Dale is that part of the Wye valley between Water cum Jolly dale and the foot of Taddington dale, where it meets the A6 road. Here the valley is horse shoe shaped and sitting at the crest is Monsal Head, which provides one of the finest viewpoints in Derbyshire of the dale and river deep down below and of the aqueduct that once carried.

Getting to the Monsal Head and Wyedale Circular Walk Trailhead. To reach the car park for the Monsal Head and Wydale Circular from Bakewell, drive northwest on Buxton Road/A6 for 2.3 km and turn right onto A6020. After 0.2 km, turn left onto Betty Lane and follow it for 110 m before turning right onto Greaves Lane.
